Observing Ryalls talk I took note that her recent project focuses around women in health care particularly focused around a personal connection to the topic with her connection to exploring self experience and emotions through the intersection between the genres of documentary and performance.
The work 'Miss Rouse' was explained to portray the experience the photographer herself had within the hospital environments alongside her mothers emotions showing topics of isolation, gender disparity, chronic illness' and emotions of frustration. This topic enabled Ryalls to take upon a storytelling approach by visualising and revisiting words that have stuck almost as a form of trauma from the medical process. She explains how using materials from these environment's sparks inspiration for the work she created. The connotations of being a woman are shown through landscapes, wildness, bleakness and cold mixed with connections of literature.
Ryalls talks about the dog within the image connotating to memories with her mum and the things she used to do as the subject, 'the dog' was family and is a connection to past and present through memories. Other work such as the work in environments of the beach on vicious days show a sense of serendipity.
